Rabbi Alana Alpert is the spiritual leader of Congregation T’chiyah in Oakland County, Michigan, and the founding director of Detroit Jews for Justice. Known for her unwavering commitment to social justice, Rabbi Alpert has dedicated much of her career to advocating for Palestinian rights and fostering Jewish-Arab solidarity. Ordained at Hebrew College, she has become a prominent voice working with organizations like Jewish Voice for Peace, IfNotNow, and the Center for Jewish Nonviolence.
Rabbi Alpert has extensively discussed her journey of unlearning the harmful narratives that frame Palestinian identity as a threat to Jewish existence. She emphasizes the importance of Jewish and Palestinian liberation being interconnected and calls for deep listening and mutual respect in the fight against all forms of oppression, including anti Palestinian Hate and antisemitism.
In April 2024, Rabbi Alpert was arrested by Israeli police during a peaceful protest near Gaza’s northern border, where she and fellow U.S. rabbis called for an end to Israel’s genocidal war and increased humanitarian aid for Gaza. Rabbi Alpert’s work continues to inspire communities to pursue a future of freedom, dignity, and justice for all peoples.
